Arson attack causes $250,000 damage to house

POLICE are seeking information that may lead to the identity of those responsible for a deliberately-lit house fire at New Norfolk last week. Tasmania Fire Service investigators have determined that arson was the cause of a fire that extensively damaged a house in Terry Circle at Fairview late last Wednesday night.

At about 11.50pm on November 2, emergency services responded to a report of a fire at the vacant property in Terry Circle. “Three fire crews from the New Norfolk brigade were at the scene in nine minutes and found the vacant house well alight,” acting district officer Jason Vinen said.

“The quick actions of firefighters saved the home from being totally destroyed. As a result of the quick extinguishment and rapid response to the fire, the house is able to be repaired,” Mr Vinen said. Damage was estimated at $250,000 damage.

“This is a devastating event for the family that was about to move into this vacant home,” Mr Vinen said. Anyone with information can contact police on 131 444 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au.
