Kensington St house fire deemed accidental

AN accidental fire caused significant damage to a three-bedroom house at New Norfolk this morning (Monday).

At about 9am today, emergency services were alerted to a house on fire in Kensington St. Tasmania Fire Service acting district officer Jason Vinen said crews from New Norfolk, Magra and Hobart were at the scene within minutes, finding the house well alight.

“The quick actions of firefighters saved the home from being totally destroyed,” Mr Vinen said. “As a result of the quick action by neighbours and rapid response to the fire, the house is able to be repaired.” An investigation has determined the fire to be accidental and has caused up to $250,000 damage to the property.

Mr Vinen said the fire was a devastating event for the family living in the house, who were not at home at the time of the fire. “The quick action of a neighbour alerting emergency services in conjunction with correctly operating smoke alarms has saved the property from being totally destroyed,” he said.
