THE New Norfolk Cenotaph in Circle St will be the location of the Derwent Valley’s Remembrance Day service at 10.45am this Friday, November 11. The Reverend Celia Hooker will speak and a bugler from the Derwent Valley Concert Band will sound the Last Post.
This service is relatively brief when compared to Anzac Day at New Norfolk. Anyone wishing to place a wreath can contact New Norfolk RSL Club secretary Brian Glover on 6261 2931 or come forward on the day. A light lunch will follow at the RSL Clubrooms. All welcome.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment the guns fell silent after the bloodshed of World War I. Remembrance Day now provides an opportunity to acknowledge the service personnel who died while serving in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
The RSL urges Australians to keep their legacy alive by attending a service, reflecting in silence, wearing a poppy, or supporting our veteran community.
