Flood watch for Derwent catchment

Initial Flood Watch for South East and Derwent Catchments

Issued at 4.18pm on Tuesday 13 December 2022, by the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart.

MINOR FLOODING POSSIBLE IN SOUTH EAST AND DERWENT CATCHMENTS FROM WEDNESDAY MORNING

Showers and thunderstorms will develop in the west and south of the state during Tuesday afternoon and evening. Wet conditions continue on Wednesday morning in the south east of the state.

Catchments are wet across the flood watch area and rivers will respond rapidly to rainfall.

Rainfall totals of 20-30 mm are likely in the flood watch area during the remainder of Tuesday, with rainfall totals to around 40 mm are possible about the southern Midlands and parts of the east coast.

Minor flooding is possible from Wednesday morning in the flood watch area.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

  • Derwent River
  • Jordan River
  • Coal River
  • East Coastal Rivers (south of Bicheno)
  • South East

Minor flood warnings are current for the South Esk and Macquarie Rivers.
