Man’s body located in Great Lake

POLICE divers this morning located the body of a man they believe had been missing since a boating incident near Liawenee yesterday, December 29. While the body has not yet been formally identified, police believe it is the 50-year-old Sheffield man reported missing yesterday.

A bystander alerted authorities at about 12.40pm yesterday that a man had disappeared from view while trying to retrieve a boat that had floated away in Boundary Bay, near Liawenee. Tasmania Police launched a land, sea and air search utilising a range of resources, and the boat was located a short time later.

The search was suspended at sunset last night, with police expressing their fears that the man had drowned. The search resumed at first light this morning (Friday) and police divers located a man’s body at about 11.40am, in the vicinity of Boundary Bay.

Police thank the local community for the support and assistance that was provided during the search. The police also expressed their condolences and said a report will be prepared for the coroner.
