Charges follow police raids in Central Highlands

POLICE officers and rangers yesterday executed search warrants on four properties in and around London Lakes, northwest of Hamilton, to investigate alleged poaching, drug offences and property crime.

Senior Sergeant John Parker of Tasmania Police said that as a result of the searches, a 33-year-old London Lakes man had been arrested and charged with drug trafficking and was bailed to appear in Hobart Magistrates Court on March 8.

Senior Sergeant Parker said the searches had resulted in the location of significant quantities of cannabis as well as stolen property valued at about $50,000. “At least five others will also be charged on summons,” he said.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and that yesterday’s operations involved 40 police officers and Natural Resource Tasmania rangers.
