Speedboat action on the Derwent this Saturday

POWERBOAT racing on the River Derwent makes its return this weekend with the staging of the annual Dianas on the Derwent at the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania’s Granton circuit. This annual event was relocated to the Derwent Valley some years ago, after the original location at Dianas Basin, near St Helens, became a conservation area.

Racing starts at 10.30am this Saturday, January 7, with a full program of events. Spectators are welcome and there will be a kiosk offering pies, pasties, savaloys, toasted sandwiches and burgers. Look for the entrance to the HC Millington Memorial Aquatic Course on the river side of the Lyell Highway mid-way between New Norfolk and Granton

Further racing will take place on March 11-12 when the club’s Granton Spectacular will see the March long weekend celebrated with a full field of Juniors, 25HPs, 85MPH, 95MPH, 105MPH, Unlimited Blown Boats, Vintage & Veterans, and even F1s. Boats from the mainland are expected and Australian championships will be held.
