SEVERAL local groups will continue their collaboration of recent years to stage Clean Up Australia Day in New Norfolk. The national clean-up day will be held on March 5, with a local mustering point at the Lions Club in Humphrey St, New Norfolk.
The Lions Club of New Norfolk, the Derwent Valley Towns Committee and the Friends of Frescati will be just some of the participants in the clean-up, which will be followed by a sausage sizzle.
“The last two years have seen significant increases in single-use plastics, alongside unprecedented numbers of face masks, takeaway coffee cups and food packaging that can find its way to footpaths, parks, rivers and beaches,” a Lions Club spokesperson said.
“There are a number of local areas targeted for this clean-up so the more hands we have to collect rubbish, the better. Bring your friends and family along and meet at 9.30am at the Lions Club in Humphrey St. Please wear sturdy shoes and bring a pair of gloves as well any personal items that you might need such as a hat, sunscreen, and water. Clean Up Australia and Tidy Towns will provide bags and pick up sticks,” they said.
“After the clean-up join us for a sausage sizzle with salads at the Lions Club in Humphrey St. It’s an opportunity to meet others and work together to keep our town tidy. To assist in catering for the sausage sizzle, please contact Howard Gant on 0467 546 891.”
