CORRECTION: Letter to the Editor

A PRODUCTION error resulted in following Letter to the Editor from Alan Leitch, of Austins Ferry, being wrongly attributed to the Federal Member for Lyons, Brian Mitchell MHR, in the current print edition of New Norfolk and Derwent Valley News. Apologies to Alan and Brian for this stuff-up.

Letter to the Editor: Tourism body

A NEW new tourism body called the Derwent Valley and Central Highlands Tourism Association has been formed to represent tourism and hospitality businesses in the region. The association also plans to encourage other businesses who deal with tourists to the region to see themselves as regional ambassadors.

One of the first items on the association’s agenda should be encourage the Derwent Valley Council to re-open the Derwent Valley Visitor Centre. At the entry to New Norfolk coming from Hobart there is a sign proclaiming the town as a 2021 Tasmania Tourism Town. Tourists seeing that would rightly think there is a visitor centre in the town and seek it out, only to find a closed building.

Any region fair dinkum about promoting experiences to visitors should want a visitor centre, a focal point for distributing information about things to do in that region. Hopefully this new association convinces the council that re-opening the Visitor Centre is a priority to the regional tourism experience.

ALAN LEITCH,
AUSTINS FERRY
