Granton men charged over Bothwell theft

POLICE are seeking assistance to solve a crime that occurred in the early morning of Saturday, February 4, when a white Husqvarna trail bike was stolen from a property at Bothwell. The motorcycle was allegedly ridden from the scene by a person who was not wearing a helmet at the time.

A spokesperson for Tasmania Police said the stolen motorcycle then travelled in convoy with a white Holden Commodore utility with distinctive front-end damage, with the vehicles being observed travelling south on the Midland Highway at Kempton at 6.23am.

“Motorists travelling on the Midland Hwy between Bridgewater and Melton Mowbray around the time are being asked to review any available dash cam footage, particularly anyone who may have passed the motorcycle on the highway travelling in the opposite direction,” the spokesperson said.

The motorcycle was recovered at Granton later on Saturday. Two Granton men, aged 26 and 19, were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property. They have been bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court in March.

Police would like to hear from anyone with information about the incident or who may have dash cam footage of the motorcycle or the utility. Contact Bridgewater CIB on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Information can also be provided online to Crime Stoppers.
