Change to speed limit at Miena

A SPEED limit reduction to 80km/h has been approved by the Commissioner for Transport on a 1.6km section of Highland Lakes Rd between Marlborough Rd and Lochiel Drive, Miena. The current speed limit of 100km/h will be reduced to 80 km/h, extending the current 80km/h speed zone north of Miena, a spokesperson said.

“The decision to lower the speed limit was made based on the characteristics of the road, including the lines of sight for drivers and the number of accesses,” they said. “The changed speed limit will come into effect once the new speed limit signs have been installed, which is expected to be in the first weeks of May. ‘New speed limit ahead’ signs will also be placed to warn road users of the change. Road users are reminded to follow the posted speed limits and always drive to the conditions.”

This week’s Central Highlands Council meeting resolved to investigate a potential speed limit reduction on Ellendale Rd, between Westerway Fire Station and the Tyenna River bridge.
