Warning of low flows in River Derwent today

HYDRO Tasmania has advised there will be very low flows in the River Derwent between Meadowbank and New Norfolk until about 4pm today (Wednesday), from which time flows are expected to return to normal.

The situation comes after the Meadowbank Power Station “tripped” at 9am today and has temporarily stopped generating electricity. A Hydro spokesperson said there will be no impact on power provision in the state.

Irrigators along the Derwent are advised to monitor water levels near pumps and the public is also advised to take care when near the river, as water levels may rise quickly.
