Initial flood watch for the Lower Derwent catchment

This Flood Watch provides early advice of possible flooding within the specified catchments.

Initial Flood Watch for the Huon, Lower Derwent and North Esk Rivers.

Flood Watch Number 1

Minor flooding is possible along the Huon, Lower Derwent and North Esk Rivers.

A westerly airstream is forecast to bring showers to western Tasmania for the remainder of Tuesday and during Wednesday. The passage of a cold front on Wednesday evening is likely to result in showers in the north.

Catchments in the west and northeast are moderately wet following rainfall over recent weeks.

Widespread rainfall totals of up to 40-60 mm are possible for the Lower Derwent, Huon and North Esk River catchments for the remainder of Tuesday and during Wednesday.

Forecast rainfall may result in river level rises during Wednesday, with minor flooding possible from Wednesday evening.

Catchments likely to be affected include:

North Esk River

Huon River

Derwent River (Lower Derwent and Styx Rivers)
