Valley’s sporting hall of fame kicks off this Sunday

LOCAL sportsmen and women who have participated at the top level of their field will be recognised at The Valley Sports Bar in New Norfolk this Sunday, June 11. Playing jumpers from those to be honoured have been professionally framed with details of their sporting achievements included. This includes VFL/AFL guernseys from:

  • Noel Taylor and his son Jason who both played football at peak level;
  • Geoff Hill (Fitzroy);
  • Cameron Clayton (Richmond);
  • Peter Hudson (Hawthorn);
  • Graeme Hinchen (Fitzroy); and
  • Scott Direen (Sydney Swans);

Kathy Foster’s Australian Olympic basketball playing top will also be among the collection. All will be presented to the New Norfolk District Football Club by the donors, for permanent display at The Valley Sports Bar (the former NNDFC clubrooms).

The NNDFC Old Players Association together with senior coach Matthew Smith and The Valley Sports Bar’s licensee Kerry Ransley have been instrumental in securing the items. More are planned to be added in the future and the club would welcome hearing of other suitable candidates and potential sponsors.

Past players and officials as well as family and friends of those being honoured will be in attendance as well as club sponsors. NNDFC patron Craig Farrell MLC will be assisting with the official presentations, which will start at 1pm. For more information contact Steve Balmforth on 0419 034 600.
