Local man charged over Miena fire

POLICE have charged a 66-year-old Miena man in relation to a fire yesterday morning that destroyed a residence on Highland Lakes Rd at Miena in the Central Highlands. The man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court later today (July 12).

“Around 7am emergence services attended the property and Tasmania Fire Service extinguishing the fire,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said. “The main dwelling on the property was destroyed by the fire. A second building on the property was not damaged. No one was present at the address at the time of the fire.”

Police say a man will appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court later today on charges of arson and aggravated burglary and stealing, as well as firearm possession and storage offences. “Anyone with information in relation to the fire is asked to contact police on 131 444 or report to Crime Stoppers Tasmania quoting reference number OR717676.” CrimeStoppers can be contacted anonymously by calling 1800 333 000 or online.
