Charlotte St house badly damaged by fire

11PM UPDATE: Police say the house in Charlotte St, New Norfolk, was extensively damaged in this afternoon’s structure fire. They say there was no one inside the house at the time but two people in the area were treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined and is being investigated by police and fire service examiners. Police ask anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or New Norfolk police on 131 444.

EARLIER: Emergency services are at the scene of New Norfolk’s second house fire of the day. Crews from the Magra and New Norfolk fire brigades were on the scene at the Charlotte St property at about 4.15pm, finding foul-smelling smoke coming from the front and rear of the house.

The fire inside caused a large front window to break shortly after firefighters entered the house wearing breathing aparatus. At the time of writing, police were interviewing witnesses to the incident.
