Mascot stolen as thieves hit Tynwald Park clubrooms again

THEFT and damage amounting to thousands of dollars has occurred at the Tynwald Park sportsground for the second time in two months. The New Norfolk Junior Football Club and New Norfolk Cricket Club had barely recovered from a major burglary at their shared clubhouse in June when thieves paid a repeat visit last week.

Tasmania Police is investigating both incidents and ask anyone with information to contact the Bridgewater CIB by calling 131 444, to to report anonymously to Crime Stoppers Tasmania via www.crimestopperstas.com.au or 1800 333 000, quoting the number OR# 716513.

Thieves kicked in seven doors in the changerooms building and ransacked the cricket club storeroom and the umpire’s room. Stolen were a television screen, two iPads, cricket balls, merchandise and canteen stock. The thieves also took the junior football club mascot “Eddie the Eagle” and even stole the contents of a first aid kit.

The New Norfolk Cricket Club has offered a reward for information leading to the return of its property.
