Gallery: Band celebrates its 30th birthday in style

THE Derwent Valley Concert Band’s gala performance last Saturday night was a triumphant celebration of the band’s 30th anniversary. Held at the band’s home away from home, the Farrall Centre at The Friends’ School in New Town, there was an appreciative audience of several hundred in attendance.

All parts of the band were represented in the three-hour performance, including the marching band under drum major Matt Rushworth, the concert band under the baton of chief conductor Lyall McDermott, the ‘community winds’ directed by Andrew Castles, and the first public performance of the new learner ensemble conducted by Nic Courto.

After the interval came the premiere performance of Timtumili Minanya (River Derwent), a new work by James Henry based on the words of Theresa Sainty. Bravo, DVCB!
