Police appeal for information about Magra crash

POLICE are seeking witnesses or anyone with video of the vehicle involved in a fatal crash at Magra early yesterday (Saturday) morning. Speaking to the media later in the day, Inspector Adam Mollineaux appealed for anyone with “dashcam” vision or other information to come forward.

“At 3.15 this morning, police and emergency services were called to a single vehicle crash on Back River Rd at Magra,” Inspector Mollineaux said. “A grey Toyota Hilux utility was being driven by a 33-year-old New Norfolk man and travelling south. “The vehicle left the road and collided with a power pole,” he said.

“Nearby residents heard the crash and went to the aid of the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, and they waited until the arrival of emergency services. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the people at the scene, the driver was pronounced deceased. The crash is being investigated by the coroner.”

Inspector Mollineaux said it was drizzling at the time of the incident and the road was wet. He said one lane of the road was closed for about four hours after the crash. “Tasmania Police is seeking assistance from members of the public,” he said. Anybody with dashcam footage or with CCTV footage of a grey Toyota Hilux utility in or around the Magra area at 3am, please contact police on 131 444.”
