THE New Norfolk Cenotaph in Circle St will be the location of the Derwent Valley’s Remembrance Day service at 10.45am tomorrow (November 11). The Reverend Celia Hooker from St Matthew’s Anglican Church will speak and a bugler from the Derwent Valley Concert Band will sound the Last Post.
Anyone wishing to place a wreath can come forward on the day when called forward by the RSL. New Norfolk’s Remembrance Day service is traditionally a brief event. A light lunch will follow at the RSL Clubrooms in George St. All welcome.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the moment the guns fell silent after the bloodshed of World War I. Remembrance Day now provides an opportunity to acknowledge the service personnel who died while serving in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
The RSL urges Australians to keep their legacy alive by attending a service, reflecting in silence, wearing a poppy, or supporting our veteran community.
