Derwent Valley and Highlands cricket results – T20 final

New Norfolk 9/119 (20 overs) was defeated by Derwent 3/120 (16.2 Overs) in the grand final of the 3rd Grade T20 roster at Tynwald Park on December 21.

New Norfolk won the toss and chose to bat. Unfortunately they lost wickets at crucial moments in the game and in the end had to concentrate on completing the full 20 overs. Three ducks reduced their total score and in the end New Norfolk posted 119 which seemed to be about 20 to 30 runs too short. Aaron Drew came in mid-order and top=scored with 35 while opener Jake King put on a patient 33 while seeing a couple of wickets fall around him.

Derwent’s openers put on a good partnership before Josh Rowlands trapped a batsman dead in front to get his first of 2 wickets through an LBW decision. The second wicket was a good runout which really slowed Derwent’s run rate but unfortunately only one other Rowlands wicket fell and Derwent took the premiership with a
bit over three overs and seven wickets remaining.

Batting: A. Drew 35 from 21, J. King 33 from 39. Bowling: J. Rowlands 2 for 8 from 4.

Josh Rowlands – economical bowling at 2 for 8 from four overs (awarded one bonus point in the New Norfolk News Player of the Year tally).
