Derwent Valley and Highlands cricket results – Week 9

WEEK 9 RESULTS – DECEMBER 2-3

NEW NORFOLK – 1st grade 50-Over format: Bye.
3rd Grade 50-Over format: New Norfolk 9/388 defeated Claremont 10/181 (41.5 overs). Saturday saw the Redcaps II host Claremont at Tynwald. New Norfolk batted first and lost some early wickets before Nathan Rice came to the crease and demolished the Claremont bowlers, clocking up an entertaining total of 202. With the ball, David Mitchelmore and his spin picked up three wickets and went for only one run per over, conceding just six runs from six overs. The Redcaps cemented their top-of-the-ladder spot for now with a convincing 207-run victory. Batting: N. Rice 202 from 91, A. Triffitt 36 from 25 (not out). Bowling: D. Mitchelmore 3 for 6 from 6, J. Rowlands 2 for 19 from 6.
6th Grade 40-Over format: New Norfolk 10/124 (25 overs) was defeated by St Virgil’s 0/125 (19.4 overs). The Redcaps III team had a rare Saturday outing and played St Virgil’s at St Virgil’s. Fielding such a young team, the Redcaps were always going to find the game tough but it gave the young players invaluable experience. In the end the Redcaps were all out for 124 batting first, and it took St Virgil’s fewer than 20 overs to secure the win without conceding a wicket. Ronan Hunt was the standout with the bat, hitting 42 before getting out. Batting: R. Hunt 42 from 34, B. Nossiter 12 from 22.
Women’s T20 format: New Norfolk 6/93 was defeated by Sorell 2/164 on Sunday. The women’s Redcap team hosted Sorell at Tynwald. Batting first, the Sorell team looked impressive and piled on 164 with the loss of just two wickets. In the chase, the Redcaps managed to see out their full 20 overs but were unable to match the run rate needed and fell short of taking their third win. Batting: A. Pfeiffer 25 from 44 not out, A. Green 17 from 35. Bowling: K. Read 2 for 30 from 4.

MOLESWORTH – 2nd grade 50-over format: Bye.
6th Grade 40-Over format: Molesworth 0/48 (6.2 overs) defeated Montagu Bay 10/47 (18.1 overs). Molesworth II played Montagu Bay at Geilston Bay Oval on Sunday. Bowling first, Molesworth applied the pressure to the Sharks and didn’t miss an opportunity to have the home team all out for just 47 runs in the 19th over. Young gun Nick Ransley had efficient figures, taking three wickets for just 10 runs across five overs and then chipped in with a run out as well. In the chase, the openers got the job done quite easily in just over six overs without the need for any other batters to pad up. Batting: R. Lohberger 22 from 22, J. Fowle 18 from 17. Bowling: N. Ransley 3 for 10 from 5, J. Wilton 3 for 22 from 5.

GRETNA – 2nd Grade 50-Over format: Gretna 7/220 defeated Montagu Bay 10/173 (45.1 overs). Gretna I was at Geilston Bay Oval on Saturday against Montagu Bay. Batting first, Gretna put on 220 from its full 50 overs. With the ball, three of the Gretna players took three wickets each to secure the win in the 46th over. Corey Ransley, Craig Cunningham and Trent Grant all grabbed three wickets. With the bat, Zach Crosswell was undefeated on 60 with opener Jackson Mann starting the innings with 41. Batting: Z. Crosswell 60 from 50 not out, J. Mann 41 from 91. Bowling: C. Ransley 3 for 29 from 10, C. Cunningham 3 for 33 from 10.
4th Grade 50-Over format: Gretna 10/141 (31.3 overs) was defeated by MacKillop 4/142 (29 overs). Gretna II played MacKillop on Saturday and, with a few young in the team, the game was always going to be tough going. Batting first, Gretna found itself all out for 141 and in the chase MacKillop had the required runs in fewer than 30 overs. Experience shone through for Gretna with both Josh Whitford and Peter Jelkic in the stats with the bat and ball. Batting: J. Whitford 28 from 37, P. Jelkic 20 from 13. Bowling: J. Whitford 1 for 10 from 3 overs, P. Jelkic 1 for 21 from 7.

BOTHWELL – 3rd Grade 50-Over format: Bothwell 3/105 (18.2 overs) defeated Bagdad 10/103 (38.3 overs). The Bucks I team travelled to Bagdad to take on Bagdad on Saturday and the game saw a hat-trick from Matty Eyles to end the Bagdad team’s innings. Bowling and fielding extremely well on the small Bagdad oval, Bothwell restricted the home team to 103 runs. It took fewer than 19 overs for the Bucks to claim an easy win with Cody and Blake Eyles both finishing not out in the middle. Batting: C. Eyles 45 from 23, B. Eyles 21 from 35 (both not out). Bowling: M. Eyles 3 for 22 from 9.3 (hat-trick), C. Pursell 2 for 8 from 6.
7th Grade 40-Over format: Bye.
