Junior cricket results – December 15-19


NEW NORFOLK
Under-14 Boys (Sunday, December 17):
 New Norfolk 9/134 (24.5 overs) defeated UTAS Red -8/79 (19.3 overs). Back at Tynwald on Sunday, the Redcaps played UTAS Red and batted first, posting a good total of 134. Jude Bannister maintained his great start to the season with a fine 40 runs with Bobby Nossiter finishing not out with 36. With the ball, the Bannister brothers had the ball on a string, taking five wickets between them (Jude 3, Gabe 2) with Gabe throwing down two overs for two wickets and remarkably no runs. The young Redcaps secured another good win to begin their Christmas break. Batting: Jude Bannister 40 from 28 (1 x 6 and 5 x 4s), Bobby Nossiter 36 from 35 (4 x 4s). Bowling: Jude Bannister 3 for 6 from 2.3, Gabe Bannister 2 for 0 from 2.
Under-16 Girls: This competition has started its Christmas break.
Stage 1 Boys: This competition has started its Christmas break.
Stage 1 Girls**: (Friday, December 15): New Norfolk 123 (20 overs) lost to UTAS Black 129 (20 overs). Batting: Sha’Diamond Evans 28, Gracie-Kaye Mayne 15 from 20 (1 x 4). Bowling: Gracie-Kaye Mayne 3 for 13 from 3, Molly-Rose Mayne 1 for 13 from 3.

GRETNA
Under-14s (Sunday, December 17):
 Gretna 8/68 (27.2 overs) lost to Sorell 7/127 (23.2 overs). Sunday morning saw the Gretna U14s host Sorell. Batting first, Sorell placed a good score of 127 before being all out. Jack Cunningham and Ryan Jones both picked up two poles each. Batting, it was not Gretna’s day and in the end the side was all out
well short of the target with Reuben Stott being the top-scorer for Gretna. Batting: Reuben Stott 21 from 30 (3 x 4s), Elijah Maddox 16 from 42. Bowling: Jack Cunningham 2 for 7 from 2, Ryan Jones 2 for 21 from 4.

Under-16s (Sunday, December 17): Gretna 1/125 (14 overs) defeated Glenorchy Black 8/124 (23.5 overs). On Sunday afternoon Gretna played at Cadbury ovals against Glenorchy Black. Bowling first, the Gretna team took
wickets at important times and had Glenorchy all out for 124 in the 24th over. Michael Pearce took two wickets for just 11 runs from four overs. With the bat, only one wicket fell and Gretna took the win in 14 overs. James Brazendale knocked another 50 on his way to 52 and remaining not out. Aydan Bailey had a personal high score of 42 not out. Bailey looked set at the crease and may have reached 50 himself if Gretna hadn’t had secured the win and completed the match. Batting: James Brazendale 52 from 36 not out (2 x 6s, 9 x 4s), Aydan Bailey 42 from 35 (2 x 6s and 4 x 6). Bowling: Michael Pearce 2 for 11 from 4, Kayden Cunningham 1 for 4 from 1.5.

**Stage 1 cricket is the entry-level competition. Each team faces 20 overs (120 balls). Each player faces the same number of balls when batting (120 divided by the amount of batters). If a player gets out they continue to bat with four bonus runs being awarded to the bowling team. Wides and no-balls are not replayed and are counted as balls faced.
