Magra fire being patrolled after Christmas Day drama

VOLUNTEER firefighters from Magra, New Norfolk and Gretna sacrificed their Christmas Day lunches to respond to a vegetation fire at Back River Rd, Magra. First reported at about 1.20pm, the fire was soon being fought by the local volunteers with the support of a fire-bombing helicopter.

At about 1.35pm the Tasmania Fire Service issued an alert requesting the public to keep well away of the scene as the falling water from the helicopter had the potential to cause injury to people entering the drop-zone.

As of 8pm the fire was reported as being patrolled by TFS crews at regular intervals. At the time of writing the cause of the fire was still unknown.
