Derwent Valley and Highlands cricket results – Week 14


NEW NORFOLK – 1st Grade 50-Over format: New Norfolk 7/216 (49.2 overs) defeated Weily Park 8/211 (50 overs). The Redcap 1 team had another away game this time at Weily Park. The home team batted first with the Redcap bowlers limiting opportunities for the Weily Park team to get a flow of runs. Jeremy Nichols and Tom Briscoe picked up two wickets each. In the chase the Redcaps started well with opener Mathew Bowden scoring a nice 74 before a flurry of wickets seemed to put the visitors on the front foot. However Nathan Rice came into bat and struck a match winning 68 not out including a 6 to bring up his 50. The Redcaps had a great 49th over putting away 15 runs to get them into a winning position. In the last over and in true Rice style, Nath finished the game hitting another big 6 to give the Redcaps the win with four balls remaining. Batting: M. Bowden 74 from 101, N. Rice 68 from 59 (not out). Bowling: T. Briscoe 2 for 37 from 10, Jeremy Nichols 2 for 45 from 10.

3rd Grade 50-Over format: New Norfolk 8/241 (50 overs) defeated Bagdad 9/170 (40.4 overs). On Saturday the Redcaps 2 team hosted Bagdad at Tynwald. The Redcaps won the toss and batted first. This was a milestone match for opener Jake King playing his 200th Redcaps game and what a day he had, opening the batting and playing a patient innings to knock over another century. With the ball, Jamie Maddox took a great 5fa to have Bagdad in all sorts of trouble. With the Redcaps batting first and putting on 241, Bagdad was always going to find it tough going and with the Redcap bowlers on song Bagdad was all out for 170, giving the Redcaps another great win. Batting: J. King 102 from 128, C. Kemmler 35 from 30 (not out). Bowling: J. Maddox 5 for 32 from 10, J. Rowlands 1 for 15 from 6.

6th Grade 40-Over format: New Norfolk 4/166 defeated Risdon Brook 8/164. Sunday saw the Redcaps 3 team host Risdon Brook at Tynwald. Bowling first the Redcaps saw Risdon Brook put on 164 with the loss of eight wickets. Liam Lowe was the pick of the Redcap bowlers with two wickets. In the hunt for another win, the Redcaps continued to display their improvements as a team and chased down the required runs in the 36th over. Young Tyson Smith opened the batting and put on a patient 45 to set up the Redcaps from the start with captain Beau Kline continuing his good form and running out of runs to chase to get another 50 finishing on 49no after hitting a four to win the game. Batting: B. Kline 49 from 37 (not out), T. Smith 45 from 95. Bowling: L. Lowe 2 for 37 from 7, H. Smith 1 for 10 from 5.

Women’s T20 format: New  Norfolk 5/164 (20 overs) defeated Derwent 5/95 (20 overs). The Redcap women played Derwent at Sorell on Sunday. Batting first, the Redcaps saw out their full 20 overs and posted their best score for the season of 5 for 164. Bella Cree at 34no was the pick of the batters with captain Lisa East also having a good innings making 30. With the ball, the Redcap bowlers gave nothing up and reduced Derwent’s ability to score, seeing them finish their 20 overs 69 runs short. Young Sidney Fletcher took good figures of 1 for just 7 runs. With the Glenorchy ladies having a bye this week it was great to see some Glenorchy players filling in for the Redcaps as many of our Redcap players double up on a weekend and also play for Glenorchy. It’s a good working relationship between the New Norfolk SCA club and the Premier League club of Glenorchy. Batting: B. Cree 34 from 30, L. East 30 from 28. Bowling: S. Fletcher 1 for 7 from 2, K. Read 1 for 9 from 2.

MOLESWORTH – 2nd grade 50-over format: Molesworth 2/143 (15.3 overs) defeated St Virgil’s 10/142 (43.5 overs). Molesworth 1 was back at Boyer Oval on Saturday to host St Virgil’s. Molesworth won the toss and sent St Virgil’s into bat first which proved to be a game tactic as St Virgil’s was all out for 142 after not scoring very quickly.
Tim Boatwright and Brayden Hodge picked up three poles each. In the chase, Molesworth didn’t muck around and
opener Josh Ransley set the tone for the innings with a very quick 73 from just 43 balls. Brad Coppleman also passed 50 and remained not out, giving Molesworth the win in just 15.3 overs. Batting: J. Ransley 73 from 43, B. Coppleman 54 from 38 (not out). Bowling: T. Boatwright 3 for 26 from 7.5, B. Hodge 3 for 35 from 10.

6th Grade 40-Over format: Molesworth 9/62 (12 overs) was defeated by St Ann’s 5/262 (40 overs). Molesworth 2 played St Ann’s on Sunday at Cadbury Ovals. Bowling first, the visitors struggled to get key wickets and saw St Ann’s put on 262 after batting out their full 40 overs. Jack Edwards picked up three wickets for Molesworth
bowling. In the chase, Molesworth didn’t stand a chance with Claremont only fielding two bowlers, with one taking six wickets. John Fowle and Chris Sinclair were the only batters to get into double figures. Batting: J. Fowle 16 from 14, C. Sinclair 11 from 12. Bowling: J. Edwards 3 for 25 from 8, A. Newbon 1 for 45 from 8.

GRETNA – 2nd Grade 50-Over format: Gretna 1 had the bye this week.

4th Grade 50-Over format: Gretna 2/151 (29.3 overs) defeated St Aidan’s 8/147 (49 overs). Gretna 2 played St Aidan’s at Cambridge on Saturday. Bowling first, the Gretna bowlers held St Aidan’s to a score of 147. Jake Campbell who is in ripping form picked up another three wickets before coming in a first drop with the bat to score a patient 44 not out. In the run chase and hunting another win, Gretna took just under 30 overs to claim victory. Captain Jackson Ackerly top-scored with 52 before getting out. Batting: J. Ackerly 52 from 65, J. Campbell 44 from 80 (not out). Bowling: J. Campbell 3 for 35 from 10, R. Langford 2 for 31 from 10.

BOTHWELL – 3rd Grade 50-Over format: Bothwell 10/84 (31 overs) was defeated by Rokeby 10/183 (50 overs). Bothwell 1 had a home game on Saturday against Rokeby. The visitors batted first and were out to make amends
after last week’s big loss to the New Norfolk Redcaps. Rokeby saw out the full 50 overs with the last wicket falling on the last ball of the innings. Nathan Eyles managed to take three wickets bowling. With the bat, the Bucks were
out of form and found themselves all out for just 84. Opener Jamie Devine top-scored with 24. Batting: J. Devine 24 from 43, T. Warden 14 from 27 (not out). Bowling: N. Eyles 3 for 36 from 10, B. Nichols 2 for 24 from 10.

7th Grade 40-Over format: Bothwell 2 had the bye this week.

2 – Jamie Maddox (New Norfolk 2) – 5 for 32 from 10 overs.
3 – Jake Campbell (Gretna 2) – 44 from 80 not out batting and 3 for 35 from 10 overs bowling.
