Derwent Valley Council community event of the year

THE award for Community Event of the Year in the Derwent Valley municipality was given to the Derwent Valley Rotary Club for its staging of the 2023 Derwent Valley Autumn Festival. Presented by mayor Michelle Dracoulis during the council’s Australia Day observance on January 26, the award was accepted by Kylie and Casey Farrell on behalf of the club.

Taking over the running of the festival after its absence of several years due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Rotary Club delivered a world-class event that brought more than 15,000 people to New Norfolk, Cr Dracoulis said.

“Attracting several hundred stallholders and major corporate and local and state government sponsors, the 2023 Autumn Festival was a difficult feat delivered with professionalism and expertise,” she said.

“The festival was run with the community in mind with local producers and incorporated associations being prioritised for stalls, often at a reduced cost or free, allowing locals and visitors alike to experience the best of what the Derwent Valley has to offer.”
