Disaster assistance for fire-affected communities

THE state government has activated the Tasmanian Relief and Recovery Arrangements to help individuals and families affected by the current bushfires in the Upper Derwent Valley/Central Highlands.

“This decision follows discussions with Central Highlands Council mayor Loueen Triffitt,” Premier Jeremy Rockliff said this morning. “The bushfires have already burned through more than 5000 hectares of land and destroyed several buildings,” he said.

“This financial assistance will help those who reside in the impacted area and may have been evacuated or prevented from returning to their primary place of residence while the fires continue to burn.”

Anyone affected by the bushfires who needs assistance should contact the Central Highlands Council. Affected businesses can also seek advice from Business Tasmania on 1800 440 026.
