New Norfolk fields a band of brothers

IT was a special day for New Norfolk’s Under-14 cricket team today when it took to the field with four sets of brothers in the one side. Co-coach Craig Jones said the team had played with three pairs of brothers for most of the season but today’s squad took it to another level.

Today’s team consisted of Angus and Hamish Fraser (sons of co-coach Adam Fraser), Willoby and Arlo Simpson, Judah and Reuben Topping, and Jude and Gabe Bannister (grandsons of co-coach Craig Jones), as well as Jack Neads whose older brother Cody plays with the senior club.

Today’s game against Wellington at the Eady St ground at Glenorchy was their first since the Christmas break. Although they did not win today, a highlight was when Gabe Bannister scored a six on his way to top-scoring with 16.

Coach Jones said the team was a young one, with four of its members being aged 11 or younger. He said it was well-led by co-captains Angus Fraser and Jude Bannister, and co-vice-captains Gabe Bannister and Hamish Fraser.

If you know of a team that’s done something similar, let us know.
