TFS update on Osterley bushfire

TASMANIA Fire Service crews are actively responding to a bushfire in the Upper Derwent Valley at Wellwood Rd, Osterley, this afternoon (Thursday). Incident Controller Jason Vinen said the Osterley village was not currently not under immediate threat but the TFS advised that awareness and vigilance should be maintained.

“Ground crews, supported by six aircraft, are actively working to bring the bushfire at Wellwood Rd under control,” Mr Vinen said. “While initially a Watch and Act warning was in place, this has now been reduced to an Advice message (avoid the area and monitor conditions) for Wellwood Rd and surrounding areas.

“The Bureau of Meteorology has advised that strong winds are forecast in the area this afternoon and are forecast to continue into Friday. It is imperative people keep up-to-date with information to keep safe.”
