FIRST FOOTY GALLERY: New Norfolk v Campbell Town

A PRACTICE match between the New Norfolk and Campbell Town football clubs was played under ideal conditions at the Campbell Town Oval last Saturday, with the Eagles’ new senior coach Dylan Ford being very pleased with his team’s performance.

This was the Eagles’ first opportunity to compete under match conditions and, even though it was a practice match, both sides played as if they were playing a finals match with some solid tackling and strong contested marking from both sides.

The Eagles’ fitness proved a deciding factor in the second half of the game. This was highlighted by coach Ford who noted that those who had been engaged with pre-season training were noticeably faster and more agile in the way in which they contested the ball.

Eagles president Steve Balmforth said the younger players and new recruits had shown great skills and potential. “It was pleasing to see the encouragement and support provided by older players and supporters on the day,” he said. “Both teams played well and with respect, a key element that was displayed by all players.”

Mr Balmforth also acknowledged the Eagles’ appreciation for Campbell Town having organised the game. final scores were New Norfolk 11.12 (78) to Campbell Town 3.5 (23).

The Southern Football Association competition for 2024 starts on April 6, when New Norfolk will travel to Cygnet to take on the Port.
