Junior cricket results – March 1-5

NEW NORFOLK
Under-14 Boys (Sunday, March 3)
: New Norfolk 8/110 (14.4 overs) lost to SHSB 1/111 (14.2 overs). The young Redcaps were back at Tynwald Park taking on South Hobart/Sandy Bay. Batting first, the home team was scoring at a pretty good rate but through the big hitting they lost wickets quite easily. Jude Bannister continued his form with the bat, top-scoring once again for the team as he reached another half-century which included two big sixes and eight 4s. The Redcaps had 110 on the board when the last wicket fell in the 14th over. In the second innings, South Hobart/Sandy Bay scored just as quickly but knowing they had plenty of overs to get the runs they didn’t seem to take as many risks. They were able to reach the win in the 15th over with seven wickets in hand. Angus Fraser was the only Redcap bowler to have a breakthrough. Batting: Jude Bannister 50 from 31 (2 x 6s, 8 x 4s), Hamish Fraser 22 from 16 (5 x 4s). Bowling: Angus Fraser 1 for 20 from 3.

GRETNA
Under-14s (Sunday, March 3):
Gretna 8/250 (25.2 overs) defeated Kingborough Black 8/182 (28.4 overs). Gretna played Kingborough Black at West Hobart on Sunday. Batting first, the young Gretna team didn’t muck about, going at a cracking pace of 10 runs an over. Young gun Cooper Gleeson put his constant improvements in the game on display, smashing a top score and personal best score of 103 in just 52 balls. Gleeson’s innings had the ball going in all sorts of directions through his vast range of shots with eight of them flying over the boundary for maximum runs and 11 crashing into the boundary for 4s. Reuben Stott had a good innings with the bat as well ending on 35 before picking up a wicket in the second innings with the most economical bowling. Gretna finished all out for 250. In the second innings a team effort in the field and through the bowlers saw Gretna take a 68-run win when they bowled Kingborough out. The team effort was such that seven bowlers took a wicket each. The eighth wicket was a run out when Rueben Stott fielded and threw the ball back to wicket keeper Ryan Jones to catch a Kingborough batsman short. Batting: Cooper Gleeson 103 from 52 (8 x 6s, 11 x 4s), Reuben Stott 35 from 33 (6 x 4s). Bowling: Reuben Stott 1 for 13 from 2, Lucas Jones 1 for 17 from 3.

Under-16s (Sunday, March 3): Gretna 8/213 (36 overs) lost to Glenorchy Black 8/221 (34 overs). Gretna played one of the Glenorchy teams at Cadbury Ovals on Sunday afternoon in what ended up being a very close finish. Glenorchy batted first with Gretna having them all out with six overs to play for 221. Aiden Harvey and James Brazendale picked up two wickets each. In the chase, the Gretna openers put on a partnership of 72 to get the team to a good start but wickets five, six and seven all fell with the team putting on only four runs. The last wicket held a 17-run partnership to get Gretna within eight runs but unfortunately it had ran out of wickets. I’m sure all players and spectators would have enjoyed such a close game. Nick Ransley showed his experience with the bat, hitting a fine 66 with the help of 4 big sixes and 6 fours. Batting: Nick Ransley 66 from 48 (4 x 6’s, 6 x 4’s), Aydan Bailey 38 from 41 (6 x 4s).
