Junior cricket results – March 9-15

NEW NORFOLK
Under-14 Boys (Sunday, March 10)
: New Norfolk finished the junior roster with a bye this week.

Under-16 Girls* (Tuesday, March 12): For the last roster game of the season, New Norfolk was due to play Sorell but had to forfeit the game, giving Sorell the win.

Stage 1** Boys: (Monday, March 11): New Norfolk 83 (20 overs) lost to UTAS Black 177 (20 overs). Batting: Daniel Limbrick 5 from 12. Bowling: Arlo Simpson 1 for 6 from 2.

Stage 1** Girls: (Friday, March 8): New Norfolk 98 (20 overs) lost to UTAS Black 119 (20 overs). Batting: Sha’Diamond Evans 12 from 10 (2 x 4s). Bowling: Maggie Smith 2 for 8 from 3, Holly Vagg 1 for 12 from 2.

GRETNA
Under-14s (Sunday, March 10): 
Gretna 8/195 lost to Glenorchy Black 5/247 (30 overs). Gretna played Glenorchy Black for their last roster game of the season and in the results we have some personal bests to report, which is fantastic and shows that improvements occur through persistence at training. Bowling first, Gretna saw Glenorchy bat its full 30 overs to place 247 on the board. Sophie Brazendale had personal best bowling figures of two wickets for 41 runs from three overs. With the bat, both Hudson Stott (50 runs) and Elijah Maddox (26 runs) had personal best scores to top Gretna’s batting list. Rafik Mulic with a score of 21 also had a personal best score. Gretna also batted the full 30 overs but fell short of the required runs. Batting: Hudson Stott 50 from 47 not out (7 x 4s), Elijah Maddox not out 26 from 38 (2 x 4s). Bowling: Sophie Brazendale 2 for 41 from 3, Lucas Jones 1 for 12 from 2.

Under-16s (Sunday, March 10): Gretna 8/172 (25.5 overs) lost to Sorell Red 5/174 (28.1 overs). Gretna U16s played Sorell at Sorell on Sunday afternoon. Batting first, Gretna was again scoring at a good rate but lost all its wickets in the 26th over with a score of 172 on the board. Nick Ransley once again dominated with the bat, finishing not out on 85 from just 40 balls which included five big maximums and 11 fours. Kayden Cunningham was the next highest run scorer with 32 from just 20 balls again a nice six was involved in his innings, and six 4s. With the ball, Gretna’s Kayden Cunningham and Aydan Bailey took two wickets each in an innings where wickets were hard to come by. The experienced Sorell team didn’t give up many chances for wickets and made the required runs in 28.1 overs. Batting: Nick Ransley 85 from 40 not out (5 x 6s, 11 x 4s), Kayden Cunningham 32 from 20 (1 x 6, 6 x 4s). Bowling: Kayden Cunningham 2 for 32 from 6, Aydan Bailey 2 for 56 from 5.

Stage 1**: (Monday, February 19): Gretna Gold 114 (20 Overs) defeated Gretna Green 109 (20 Overs). Batting – Gold: Arlo Wakefield 8 from 14 (1 x 4), Brooklyn Harvey 8 from 14 (1 x 4). Bowling – Gold: Hayley Harvey 2 for 7 from 3, Shelby Smith 1 for 6 from 2. Batting – Green: Alex Bailey 20 from 15 (1 x 6, 3 x 4s), Amelia Ransley 13 from 15 (1 x 4). Bowling – Green: Jack Cooper 2 for 9 from 3, Ashton Bailey 2 for 15 from 3.

* In Under-16 Girls’ cricket each team faces 20 overs (120 balls). Each player faces the same number of balls when batting (120 divided by the amount of batters). If a player gets out they continue to bat with four bonus runs being awarded to the bowling team. Wides and no-balls are not replayed and are counted as balls faced.
