New Norfolk youth detained on robbery charges

POLICE say they have charged a 16-year-old from New Norfolk after an incident in Clarendon Vale yesterday. The boy has been detained in custody to appear in court tonight (Monday).

It will be alleged that around 2.45am yesterday, March 10, the youth threatened a rideshare driver with a knife at Clarendon Vale and attempted to steal money from him. “The rideshare driver managed to flee without suffering any physical injury,” a police spokesperson said.

Police located the youth today in Rosny Park, where it’s further alleged he assaulted and resisted police. The youth was later charged with numerous matters including attempted aggravated armed robbery, burglary, four counts of stealing and offences against police.

“This incident was isolated and there is no threat to the wider community,” the police spokesperson said. “Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestopperstas.com.au. Information can be provided anonymously.”
