Traffic diverted after highland bridge collapse

A SUSPENSION bridge over the Ouse River near Waddamana is closed until further notice after being found to have collapsed.

Tasmania Police issued an alert around 6.45am today (Saturday) announcing that the Bashan Rd bridge had collapsed.

Motorists have been advised to take alternative routs to avoid this closure. A ford a short distance from the bridge may be suitable for some traffic.

The bridge is reportedly about 90 years old and maintained by the Department of State Growth.

An update on its status is likely to be several days away. Follow the Tasmania Police website for updates.
