Bushy Park Anzac Day service in Statton VC Memorial Hall

IT was a cool morning at Bushy Park for the annual Anzac Day service held in the Percy Statton VC Memorial Hall at the Bushy Park War Memorial Swimming Pool last Thursday. About 30 people attended the service that was conducted by Hannah Mann of the Loyal Glenora Lodge and readings by fellow lodge members Jacksyn Mann, Jarrad Mann and Jodie Denman. The names of the fallen from the district was read by Debra Crosswell.

For the first time, music was this year incorporated into the service several songs played, including I Was Only 19 by Redgum. The service concluded with I Am Australian (Anzac Version) by Bruce Woodley which had everyone singing along. Wreaths were laid by Loyal Glenora Lodge, Glenora District School, New Norfolk RSL, New Norfolk Rebekah Lodge, Derwent Valley Council and the Mann family.

Following the service, lunch was supplied by the Loyal Glenora Lodge, with a great spread including pumpkin soup, sausage rolls, assorted savouries, sandwiches and platters followed by apple crumble, trifle and an array of sweet treats all made by the lodge members.

In the afternoon, the traditional round robin competitions were held, including crib, euchre and eightball for the Tony Veart Memorial Shield. After some tight battles the eventual winner was Jarrad Mann.
