Five charged over New Norfolk fires

FIVE youths have been identified and charged over a series of fires in New Norfolk last month. Tasmania Police says nine were reported from 22 to 25 March 22-25, with garbage bins, a motor vehicle and vegetation set alight.

“The five boys, aged 14, 15, 16, 16 and 17 from New Norfolk, Gagebrook and Bridgewater, were charged with more than 20 offences in relation to fires deliberately lit in High St, Pioneer Ave, Circle St, George St and Back River Rd,” a police spokesperson said today.

There are 16 charges of unlawfully setting fire to property, four instances of unlawfully setting fire to vegetation and two charges of improper use of an emergency carriage service. “The youths will be proceeded against under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act,” the spokesperson said.
