In the News: Nathan Rice our cricketer of the year

NATHAN Rice has taken out the inaugural Cricketer of the Year Award presented by New Norfolk and Derwent Valley News. The award is based on weekly “most valuable player” points awarded by the News’ cricket writer during the season, with Rice emerging as the winner.

The award was presented last week by News editor and owner Damian Bester, who expressed appreciation for sponsorship received from Williams Outdoors and the fine trophies supplied by T&M Trophies.

Rice, 23, lives at Lachlan and works as a glazier at Derwent Valley Glass. He’s practically a life-long member of the New Norfolk Cricket Club, following in the steps of his father, Stewart, a living legend of the club. Nathan has come up through the ranks of the club, starting out as a junior. He’s worked at Derwent Valley Glass for six years, having completed his education at New Norfolk Primary School and New Norfolk High School.

The News‘ Cricketer of the Year Award caps off an outstanding season for Rice, in which he was named the Redcaps’ first grade champion player for the first time. Read Justin Benson’s full story in the May 17 issue of New Norfolk and Derwent Valley News.
