NNDFC game day notes – Round 7, May 18, 2024

Today we are back home at the Boyer Oval to the Sorell Football Club. Following the thrill of our first senior victory in 742 days against the Hobart Tigers three weeks ago, we came back to earth with a 104-point loss to the Lindisfarne Two Blues at Anzac park a fortnight ago.

On face value, it might be seen disappointing. However, statistics show that we lost to Lindisfarne by 154 points in the equivalent game last season. So, it was an improvement of 50 points compared to last season. There is obviously a significant difference between the top teams in the competition and the bottom teams. The young Eagles have shown improvement so far this season under new coach Dylan Ford and they are on track to finish midfield on the ladder if they can post wins against Claremont and Hobart as the season progresses.

The development of young players takes time, and we will see improvement in the latter part of the season. The senior team has had a week off to recover from some injuries and will hopefully put in a strong performance against Sorell today.

Following the bye, the reserves should be close to full strength as the senior team has recovered from injuries. Coaches Corey Ransley and Nigel Hay will relish having a full list to choose from and we hope to see a good performance from the reserves today.

Today, the Lady Eagles will line up against the South East Suns following a trip to Anzac Park for a good win against the Lindisfarne Two Blues and a bye. They are undefeated so far this season and will be looking for a good win in
preparation for the top-of-the-table encounter with Claremont next week.

Today, Lady Eagle vice captain Dannielle Clifford plays her 50th game. Dannielle played her first game in 2021 and has played mainly on the backline. However, she has had some time in the ruck this season and has made some forays into the forward line to score some important goals for the team. She played in the premiership winning side of 2022. Congratulations Dannielle on achieving this milestone and we hope there are many more games in the Red, White and Black.
