Smiles all around as Corumbene celebrates

CORUMBENE’S $11.7 million Health Hub on The Avenue at New Norfolk is open for business after it was officially opened on Friday by the Governor of Tasmania, Barbara Baker. Corumbene chairman Ross Carlyle said it was a significant day for the future delivery of health care and health services in the Derwent Valley.

The site, which features two redeveloped and restored 1930s hospital buildings, was designed to be a landmark health and wellbeing centre and a showpiece of community care, Mr Carlyle said. “The buildings have been linked by an atrium and transformed into a state-of-the-art 2000-square-metre Health Hub for the community.

The site already features the UTAS Centre for Rural Health, Hobart Pathology and Next Level Wellness and Recovery Centre, and Eve & Co Coffee House will open in the next few weeks. “In addition, Corumbene has relocated our Rural Primary Health Program team to the hub,” Mr Carlyle said. “Further, we are actively marketing the remaining space within the hub to permanent and visiting health and community care services to support the delivery of community care.”

Mr Carlyle said the project represented a substantial investment by Corumbene of approximately $6 million, supported by essential funding from other sources:

* The Commonwealth Government provided $3.785 million through the Department of Infrastructure Building Better Regions Fund.
* The Tasmanian Government provided $1 million through the Department of State Growth’s Building Projects Support Program and a $3.5 million low interest loan through the Office of the Coordinator-General Building Construction Support Loan Scheme.
* University of Tasmania $670,000 Centre for Rural Health’s multidisciplinary training program.

Corumbene is a not-for-profit independent aged and community care provider based in New Norfolk that serves the Derwent Valley, Central Highlands and surrounds.
