Police: If roads are closed, they’re closed

WITH ice and snow still affecting many roads across the state. Tasmania Police have issued a reminder to motorists to obey road closure and warning signs.

“In winter months Tasmanian roads are subject to frost, ice and snow, care should be taken on elevated and shaded roads,” a spokesperson said.

“If a road is closed, it’s closed for a reason,” a police spokeperson said. “Stay up-to-date with road closures and alerts at police.tas.gov.au/community-alerts/

Warnings about the following local roads were issued earlier today:

  • Highland Lakes Rd – Patchy ice throughout Den Hill to Miena
  • Highland Lakes Rd – Brodies Rd to Marlborough Highway – use extreme caution due to ice.
  • Lake St Clair Rd – Caution for slippery conditions – Ice.
  • Lake Dobson Rd – Extreme Caution for slippery conditions – Ice.
  • Lyell Hwy – Patchy ice Wayatinah to Derwent Bridge.
  • Lyell Hwy – Collingwood River to Derwent Bridge – Light frost, however ice detected from Taffeys Bridge to Mt Arrowsmith.
  • Marlborough Rd – Extreme Caution for slippery conditions – Ice.
