Vice-regal gig for local cafe crew

NEW Norfolk eatery Brewtique on Blair had the honour of catering for the Royal Hobart Regatta’s cocktail party on the Sunday of last month’s long weekend, in the presence of the Governor of Tasmania, Barbara Baker.

Brewtique on Blair head chef Rachel Smith said it was an honour to be invited to cater for the event by Royal Hobart Regatta vice president Sam Cooper. “We thought this would be a fantastic opportunity for our staff to have the opportunity to get out of their comfort zone, doing something they may not get many chances to do otherwise – serving the governor of the state.”

All the staff were keen to work at the event even though it was a hectic weekend for the recently-established business, catering for 100 people for the cocktail party, while also being booked to have their highly-regarded gluten free food truck at the Maydena Bike Park for the whole weekend.

This meant closing the Blair St cafe for the majority of that weekend as the staff had to be split our into two teams to be able to cover both events, one in Hobart and the other at Maydena. Rachel recruited two of her regular customers to help her in the food truck on the Saturday, with mum and fellow cook Lynn Smith taking over on the Sunday as Rachael had to prepare for the cocktail party.

“All our staff did wonderfully over the weekend – we’re very proud of our young ones,” Rachel said.

Brewtique on Blair is a gluten-free cafe at 3 Blair St, New Norfolk, open from 10am-2.30pm and 4.30pm-8pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday; 8am-2.30pm and 4.30pm-8pm on Saturday; and 8am-2.30pm and 4.30pm-8pm on Sunday.
