MOLESWORTH Cricket Club won both of the Southern Cricket Association grand finals it contested today. The 2nd Grade team defeated Old Beach at Cloak Oval and the 5th Grade side emerged victorious over Derwent at North Warrane.
At Cloak Oval, Old Beach, the home side won the toss and elected to bowl. Molesworth openers Mitchell Turner and Josh Ransley were out for 11 and four runs respectively, before Corey Whitbread steadied the side with 52 including 11 fours. Nick Piuselli top-scored with 87, including six 4s and and five 6s. The visitors had reached 285 by the time Old Beach’s Jacob Goodsell bowled out Dale Fenton. With two ducks and a top score of 35 by captain Liam Harris, Old Beach was unable to reach the target and the game was over by the 35th over of the second innings, leaving Molesworth as the premiers of 2nd Grade. Derwent batted first after winning the toss, and reached 10/134. In reply, Molesworth scored the required runs in 24.4 overs and brought home the silverware.
