TASMANIA Fire Service crews found a couch ablaze outside a unit in Kensington St, New Norfolk, when called to a fire in the area tonight.
Volunteer crews from the New Norfolk and Magra were alerted to a “structure fire” at Kensington St, and on arrival they worked quickly to contain the small fire, preventing damage to the surrounding area.
While winter is traditionally a quieter period for the local fire brigades, New Norfolk crews still faced 19 callouts last month. These included seven vehicle fires, four alarm calls and two vegetation fires. The brigade also provided assistance at three car crashes and two other fire incidents.
The brigade members have plenty else to occupy them during the colder months, with any spare time being used to attend to ongoing training and firefighting scenarios.
