NNDFC game day notes – August 8, 2026

TODAY we welcome Cygnet to our last home game of the 2026 season. As with last weekend, we have only two games today, starting with the Reserves at noon, followed by the Seniors at 2pm. The Lady Eagles play Claremont at Abbotsfield Park at 3.30pm.

Today we also welcome our sponsors, past players and officials for a few refreshments in our new bar, to thank them for their generous support. We hope everyone enjoys today’s games and we wish all teams good luck.

SENIOR NOTES

THE Seniors have had an improved season against all other clubs. While we have only won three games and had a draw with Hobart, we have reduced the losing margins in most games from last season. The last time we met Cygnet in Round 3, the Port won by 56 points on their home turf. Since then, Cygnet has gone on to win 13 of 14 games played and sits on top of the ladder, ahead of Sorell on percentage. Last week the Eagles were beaten by Huonville by 53 points at Boyer Oval and Cygnet scored a massive 155-point win over Claremont. It will be a tough ask for the Eagles today, but it is hoped they can bring their best and really test Cygnet as the visitors tune up for the finals.

RESERVES NOTES

THE Reserves are experiencing another up and down season. As with the Seniors, they have been more competitive in many games this season and have won three games to date. On their best days they are very competitive. However, constant personnel changes and inconsistency are causing concerns. Today they play Cygnet, who sit in second place on the ladder on percentage from leader Dodges Ferry. The last time the two sides met resulted in a 12-point victory for Cygnet on their home turf. In their last game against Huonville, the Reserves were very competitive losing by 22 points. There is no hope of making finals this season, but the Reserves can finish the season off on a high note by pushing Cygnet today and perhaps causing a boil over. Let’s see if the Reserves can put in a good performance today on their home turf.

WOMEN’S NOTES

THE Lady Eagles are again enjoying a great season. They have chalked up 11 wins to date with their three losses being to Claremont, Hutchins and The Port, and the Eagles now sit in third place on the ladder four points in front of The Port. Today, the Eagles are on the road to Abbotsfield Park to tangle with the undefeated Claremont Magpies. The last time the two sides met in Round 4, the Eagles were defeated by Claremont by 46 points at Boyer Oval. It will be a very tough game today for the Eagles, but they are coming off some impressive wins over the last few weeks, and the return of Sharna Thompson has been a huge boost. Let’s hope the Eagles can put up a great fight today against a very tough opponent.
