The New Norfolk News has been published online since 2008 when it was founded by Damian Bester who has been a working journalist since starting a cadetship at the Mercury newspaper in 1990. His first article was published in the Derwent Valley Gazette at the age of eight and he was later the editor of student newspapers at New Norfolk High School and Elizabeth College.
Damian has an insider’s understanding of local government, having twice been elected to the Derwent Valley Council and serving for eight years. He has edited several volumes of local history and was Newspapers in Education manager at the Mercury for a decade before becoming a print and digital news producer working across several newspapers throughout Australia.
The New Norfolk News was established to give prominence to local news not receiving mainstream media coverage and continues to fulfil that brief.
A monthly print edition, titled New Norfolk and Derwent Valley News, was launched in July 2020.
